Join us!

Wondering how you can get involved with RVRG? Here’s a few ways to join in the fun!

As a Player: Think you got what it takes to play Roller Derby? We know you do!

As a Referee/Coach: We’re looking for a few good men & women to keep us in line.

As a Volunteer: The amazing folks that make our events look easy.

As a Player:

RVRG is a competitive league committed to developing the best derby players in the region. New skaters or “Fresh Meat” are given a chance to develop their skills at beginner and novice training/testing before being integrated into league practice for the safety of everyone.

We’re looking for athletically minded people who can commit to a minimum of 2 practices a week and who are enthusiastic to train hard, play hard and have fun doing it.

Our Fresh Meat session is an intensive learn to skate program. You will be given expert guidance and training by experienced roller derby players and coaches in a safe and stress-free environment.

What you’ll learn:

  • skating techniques and skills (sprinting, braking, transitions and falls)
  • roller derby rules of play
  • how to choose the right safety equipment and how to care for your derby gear

The first of RVRG’s Fresh Meat sessions for 2013 will take place two nights a week starting in May and running until July. A second session will run two nights a week from August through November.

Interested in joining our 2013 Fresh Meat program? Sign up now (it’s not unusual for there to be a waiting list.) Contact freshmeat(at)rideauvalleyrollergirls(dot)com

If you are an experienced roller girl moving to Ottawa and are looking to join our league, please contact leaguetransfer(at)rideauvalleyrollergirls(dot)com

As a Referee:

We’re looking for a few good men & women to keep us in line.

Referees and officials are a huge part of Roller Derby. They keep points, track penalties, and eject those players who get carried away during the heat of battle.

No experience is necessary though some ice skating or roller blading experience will probably help you get up to speed with your roller skating skills quickly. Referees are asked to attend at least 3 practices a month, help out during drills, referee scrimmages and learn the rules and regulations inside and out. An ability to travel occasionally with us to away games is also a real asset, not to mention a lot of fun.

Not willing to jump into some skates?
We also always looking for non-skating officials. They keep the game moving and regulated by tracking penalties, points, and percentages.

Coaches:

We are very interested in experienced hockey, sports psychology and speed skating coaching staff to help us become the very best that we can be.

If you think you can handle us please contact : refs(at)rideauvalleyrollergirls(dot)com

As a Volunteer:

Behind any successful derby league is a hardworking staff of dedicated individuals.

Our home bouts are a major undertaking that would not be possible if it weren’t for the great volunteers who generously donate their time and talent.

RVRG is a non-profit organization looking for men, women & responsible teens who can help out by volunteering as production crew.

During home games we need a LOT of volunteers in a variety of disciplines:

set-up/tear-down crew
scorekeepers
penalty box monitors
security
sound technicians
videographers
announcers

If you have some time this summer for volunteering please contact us at : volunteers(at)rideauvalleyrollergirls(dot)com
