RVRG's Killer Kozak & friends show off their mad decorating skills.
Now that's a winning shopping cart.
Ottawa held its first annual Idiotarod this weekend and team RVRG was proud to take part.
What’s an Idiotarod? Well… the Idiotarod is a unique take on Alaska’s famous Iditarod dog sled race. It takes part in an urban setting and is part scavenger hunt, part race, and part insanity.
“An IDIOTAROD team consists of five (5) idiots: one (1) “musher” (who steers the cart from behind the handle-bar) and four (4) “runners” (who run alongside the cart). The same 5 team members have to start, finish, and check in at all checkpoints.”
Want to know more about the Idiotarod? Check out their website.
On Saturday September 19, team RVRG raced against other Idiotaroders on a scavenger hunt/collection of donations for Centre 507. Racers took off from Jack Percell Park on Elgin street and made their way to the Elmdale Tavern on Wellington. Teams were awarded points for style, speed, and completion of their “shopping list”.
And if there’s two things every derby girl’s got, they are style and speed. RVRG came, saw, and conquered all for a good cause.
You can read more about the event on the Ottawa Sun.
What a blast! Look for us at next year’s event for sure.

The Slaughter Daughters heat up the track during
warm ups at the Swelter Skelter bout, Aug 15, 2009.
What a game! The RVRG Slaughter Daughters have done it again and we are so glad you were there to see it, Ottawa! You made our last home game of the season a great success and helped us to raise funds for a very special cause too… Nelson House. Thank you.
Our Swelter Skelter bout couldn’t have been more appropriately named as both the crowd and teams struggled to keep cool as arena temperatures rose to uncomfortable degrees.
Despite the heat, the Daughters opened strong and took the lead early in the game. At the half it was 93 to 48 for the RVRG Slaughter Daughters. The second period saw RVRG dole out hit after incredible hit as Green Mountain laboured to catch up. Slaughter Daughter Pivots Semi Precious and Scotch Minx kept cool command of the game from the very beginning. Blockers Madder Splatter, Screamin’ Meanie Massacre, Surgical Strike, Molimina Falcon, Blackout Susan, Pretty Sketchy and Drunky Brewster rarely allowed the GMDD’s jammers to pass all the while keeping Green Mountain’s blockers occupied. SD jammers Sister Disaster, Soul Rekker and DDT burned up the track jam after jam to widen the lead for a final score of 170 to 76 for the RVRG Slaughter Daughters.
We can’t wait for next season. Meanwhile we’re hitting the road for more derby fun in London Ontario as we go up against Forest City Roller Girls’ Thames Fatales on October 3. Gonna be in London this fall? Check us out!

The Daughters cozy up to the Thames Fatales after the game. Derby rules!

What a night! Spills, chills, thrills and well deserved hometown win for RVRG’s Slaughter Daughters. London’s Thames Fatales came out fast and strong in the first period but the Daughters quickly “Thamed” them to take the game with an impressive final score of 150 to 77 for the Daughters.
Thank you Ottawa for cheering us on to victory and for helping us raise funds for the Venus Envy Bursary Fund — a great cause that we are proud to support. Thanks again to all our amazing volunteer and support staff. Special thanks to London’s Thames Fatales for making this game one the Daughters won’t soon forget. We’ll see you in London on October 3rd for the rematch.
The RVRG Slaughter Daughters are getting ready to hit the road again to face off against Albany NY’s Hellions of Troy this upcoming July 18th.
GO RVRG!
